Washington Birth Records

washington

Washington has been maintaining birth records since July 1, 1907 when the state passed a law which required the state to record vital events such as births. However, some towns and cities did record births before that.

The only way to locate birth records before 1907 is to contact the county office where the person was born.

Washington is a closed record state, which means that certified copies can only be requested by the person named on the certificate, as well as their immediate family members (including spouse) and lawyers representing them.

Washington Vital Records Office

The office that handles birth records from 1907-2024 for the entire state of Washington is The Department of Health, where they provide birth records, marriage records, divorce records, and death records.
