South Carolina Birth Records

south-carolina

South Carolina has been maintaining birth records since 1915, when the state passed a law making it mandatory to record vital events such as births. Birth records before 1915 may be available, but only from the county office in which the person was born.

South Carolina is a closed record state, which means that certified copies can only be requested by the person named on the certificate, as well as their immediate family members (including spouse) and lawyers representing them.

South Carolina Vital Records Office

The office that handles birth records from 1915-2024 for the entire state of South Carolina is The Department of Health and Environment Control.
