Vermont has been maintaining birth records since 1857 when the state passed a law making it mandatory to record vital events such as births.
Before that, many towns kept their own birth records with some of the oldest dating all the way back to 1820.
Vermont Vital Records Office
The office that handles birth records from 2019-2024 for the entire state of Vermont is The Department of Health where they provide birth records, marriage records, divorce records, and death records.
Records before 2019 are moved to the Vermont State Archives & Records Administration.
